FIFA announced the dates for the 22nd edition of the FIFA world cup. FIFA world cup 2022 will kick off on Monday 21st November 2022. Qatar will be hosting the most awaited tournament till the finals 18th December 2022.

Kick-off time allocated for group stages is 13:00, 16:00, 19:00, and 22:00 Local time (GMT+3). The last round of group games and knockout-stages will start at18:00 and 22:00 Local Qatar Time (GMT+3).

Host Qatar

Qatar will host the 22nd edition of the FIFA World Cup and capital city Doha will host most of the matches. This modern Arab country rich in its culture has a population of 2.8 million people with Arab and English being a common language. Qatar will be the first Arab nation to ever host a FIFA world cup.

Qatar located in Asia also becomes the third Asian nation to host the FIFA world cup. Asia has hosted a world cup only once before in the year 2002. Japan and South Korea hosted FIFA world cup 2002 exactly 20 years before this event.

World will celebrate finals of the event on 18th December on the same date Qatar celebrates Qatar National Day.

It will also be the first world cup to be held in the months of November and December. All of the previous being in the months of May, June, and July. Climate is termed as perfect during that part of the year in the country.

Last 32 Team Format

FIFA world cup 2022 will be the last world cup format featuring 32 teams. In the next installment of the World Cup, the number of participating teams will be increased to a total of 48. FIFA World Cup 2026 will feature 16 additional teams and will be held in the United States of America, Mexico, and Canada.

Qatar is preparing for one of the most anticipated and watched events on the planet. The tournament will use 8 Stadiums which are relatively closely located. It will give fans the chance to attend multiple matches. Lusail Iconic Stadium will host 10, the most number of matches with the Finals and one of each Round of 16, Quarterfinals and Semifinals match.
